昨日に引き続き、７月30日（日）のオープンキャンパス企画の紹介です。

今日はもうひとつの目玉企画として準備している英語アクティビティ企画「英語で遊ぼう！」について、本学科のTodd Enslen先生からの招待状をお届けしたいと思います。

なんと、こちらは「一緒にボードゲームを楽しみながら、英語の力もぐんぐん伸ばそう！」という企画です。

実は招待状にもあるとおり、Todd先生担当の「国際コミュニケーション演習」という授業で実際に行なっているアクティビティを、今回はオープンキャンパスに来てくださったみなさんに少し体験してもらおう、という趣旨の企画です。

「英語は好きだけど、そこまで自信はないかも…」「将来は英語で仕事をしてみたいけど、今はまだまだ…」

いえいえ、だいじょうぶです、「あしたっていまさっ！」という気持ちでぜひ、あるいはお気軽にふらっと、鶴岡記念講堂の多目的室にぜひ立ち寄ってみてください。

Let’s play a board game in English

Students will have the opportunity to try playing board games in English during the open discussion time at HBU’s Open Campus. While this might seem like just a fun activity to do, the participants will actually be experiencing a form of problem-based learning (PBL), which I use in my International Communication Enshu course. This is a way to have fun while using and learning English.

I have selected this as the method of teaching because it helps students develop problem-solving skills, decide on their own how and what they should learn, and develop effective collaboration skills. In addition, the problem itself motivates students to participate and finish the task. By using board games as the problem, it further motives the students to participate because most students enjoy playing games.

In an actual class, students must first of all learn the game that their group is assigned. They are required to read the rules and watch YouTube videos of people playing the games. They then play the game multiple times in their groups to help each other understand how it is played. Students then take a quiz over the vocabulary and content of the game before teaching students from other groups how to play the games. Finally, students need to submit a summary of how to play the game. Thus, students are using and developing all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

英語でボードゲームをやってみよう！

オープンキャンパスの別メニュー、「英語でボードゲーム体験」。それって単に遊んでるだけじゃない？ と思うかもしれませんが、実は「課題解決型学習法（PBL）」という方法に基づいた、れっきとした英語学習法。私の「国際コミュニケーション演習」という授業では、学生はみな、楽しみながら英語を学んでいます。

この授業では、学習者は何を学ぶかを自分で判断しながら、課題を解決する力、そして効果的に協働する力を伸ばします。また課題自体も、実に解きがいのある課題。ボードゲームを楽しむだけで、知らず知らずのうちに参加者は「積極的な」学習者となっているのです。

実際の授業では、まずはグループ別にゲームのルールを学びます。説明書を読み、YouTubeで実際のプレイを見た後、お互い助け合いながら自分たちも何度か実際にプレイします。そして語彙と内容についてのクイズをクリアした後、他のグループに自分たちのゲームのやりかたを説明します。そして最後にそのゲームについてのレポートを書いて任務完了。このやりかたで、英語の４技能：話す・聞く・読む・書く、すべてのスキルを、ゲームを通じて楽しみながら伸ばすことができます。
